California EDD fax number
The EDD publishes one fax number for sending in a paper Unemployment Insurance application. It is printed inside the application form itself rather than on the EDD contact pages, which is why it is hard to find.

This number is for the application itself. Any other EDD paperwork goes to the address or number printed on the notice you received.

How we verify fax numbers

We never add a number because someone faxed it. A number appears here only if the agency published it. A delivered fax can confirm a number, but it can never create one.
What the EDD accepts by fax
The EDD asks most people to file online through myEDD and says an online application is processed much faster. Faxing is the alternative when you are filing on paper:
- A completed Unemployment Insurance application, form DE 1101I
- The version of that application for people who worked in California and another state
- Attachments the application asks you to include
- Documents a notice asks you to return, to the number printed on that notice
Before you send
The application already carries your details, so a cover sheet is optional here. If you add one, include:
- Your full name as it appears on the application
- The last four digits of your Social Security number
- A daytime phone number
- The number of pages, including the cover sheet
Do not fax the instruction pages. The application marks the pages that should not be sent, and leaving them in adds pages to your fax for no reason.
Send the whole application in one fax. The EDD asks you to allow ten days for processing after it arrives.
Keep your delivery confirmation. It is your record of the date you filed, and on a claim the filing date is the date that matters.
Confirm the number on the form you are sending before you fax. The EDD prints it inside the application, so it can change when the form is revised.

Questions about faxing the EDD
What is the EDD fax number?
The EDD prints one fax number inside the DE 1101I Unemployment Insurance application, for sending in a completed paper application. It is listed at the top of this page with the official source it came from. The EDD contact pages do not list a general fax number.
Can I fax a disability or Paid Family Leave claim?
The EDD does not publish a fax number for those. Its State Disability Insurance contact page lists phone, mail, and SDI Online only, so use one of those instead.
Is faxing faster than applying online?
No. The EDD says applications filed online through myEDD are processed much faster, and asks you to allow ten days for processing after a faxed application arrives.
How do I prove I filed on time?
