How to fax from your phone, iPhone or Android
You can send a fax from your phone without an app, an account or a fax machine. Photograph each page or pick a PDF, type the fax number, and pay $2.99. It arrives as a real fax, and your receipt comes by email once it is delivered.
Send Your Fax NowIf your fax is not delivered, you are not charged.
Fax from your phone in five steps
Open prontofax.com on your phone. There is no app to install.
Photograph each page with your camera, or upload a PDF from your phone or Google Drive.
Add an optional cover page, then check every page in the preview.
Enter the fax number. We check that the line can receive a fax before you pay.
Pay $2.99 and send. If it is not delivered, you are not charged.
Send a fax from your phone in about two minutes
ProntoFax runs in your phone browser. There is nothing to download and nothing to sign up for. You add your pages, enter the fax number and pay, and the fax goes out over the phone network on our end, so your phone needs no fax line and no special plan.
It works the same way on any recent iPhone or Android phone. The only difference is where your files live, and that is covered below.
How to fax from an iPhone
Open prontofax.com in Safari or any other browser and start sending. To fax paper, add a page and choose to take a photo. Lay the page flat in good light with the whole sheet in the frame. Photos already in your library work too.
To send a PDF instead, choose to upload a file. The iPhone opens the Files app, where you can pick a PDF saved on the phone, in iCloud Drive, or in Google Drive if the Drive app is installed and switched on in Files.
How to fax from an Android phone
Open prontofax.com in Chrome or any other browser and start sending. To fax paper, add a page and take the photo with your camera. Photos already in your gallery work too.
To send a PDF, choose to upload a file. The Android file picker shows the files on your phone and, on most phones, Google Drive as well, so a PDF someone emailed you or shared with you in Drive can go straight into the fax.
Photos of the pages or a PDF
Photos: we crop each one to the page, straighten it, and turn it into the sharp black and white a fax machine prints cleanly. You see every page before anything is sent, and you can retake any single page without starting over.
A PDF goes as it is, page for page. If the document is already on your phone as a PDF, that is the cleanest copy you can send.
One fax is one document, so you add either photos or a PDF, not both. The limit is 25 pages, including an optional cover page.
What it costs, and the receipt you get
$2.99 flat per fax, not per page. Your card is held when you send and charged only after the receiving machine confirms delivery. If the fax does not go through, the hold is released and you pay nothing.
Once it is delivered, your receipt arrives by email with the delivery time, the page count, the number you faxed and a link to view what you sent. If this is a one-off, here is more on sending one fax with no subscription.
ProntoFax sends faxes. It does not receive them.
There is no fax number to set up on your phone. If someone needs to fax something to you, you need a service that rents you a number of your own.

Questions about faxing from your phone
Can I fax from my phone without an app?
Yes. ProntoFax works in the browser you already have, on iPhone and Android. There is nothing to install and nothing to delete afterwards.
Can I fax a picture from my phone?
Yes. Take a photo of each page, or pick photos you already took. We straighten and sharpen them into black and white pages a fax machine prints cleanly.
Do I need a phone line or a fax number?
No. The fax goes out from our side over the phone network. Your phone only needs a browser and a data or Wi-Fi connection.
Is it free to fax from my phone?
No. It is $2.99 per fax for up to 25 pages, charged only once delivery is confirmed. Free options exist, and they often limit pages, add their own cover page, or ask you to make an account.
How do I know the fax went through?
You see the status on screen while it sends, and a receipt arrives by email once the receiving machine confirms delivery. If it fails, that email says so and the hold on your card is removed.
